Dear Ms. Sullivan:

I heard from Pasty Central that you are about to celebrate a momentous occasion!  Very best wishes and congratulations on your 100th birthday!!!

I have had an opportunity to experience the wonderful pasty provided by gracious people  such as yourself.  A most heartfelt thank you for your efforts.  The pasty were absolutely superb!

Wishing you all things well on your very special day!

Best wishes,

Christine Witte Ann Arbor, Michigan

Happy Birthday!  I am a school teacher in California.  I am originally  from Iron River, MI.

I hated the bitter winters so three years ago I moved.  I teach 8th  grade math and English in Santa Ana.

I hope that you have a great day and I thank you for your years of  dedication.  Teaching is a hard profession.  I am already pursuing my  Master's degree in Administration.  I have taught for two years and am  ready to move out of the classroom.  At the age of twenty-seven I plan  on being an assistant principal.

Take care

 Kelli Harding

Kathryn,

I hear that you have reached a wonderful milestone.  Happy 100th Birthday!  I'm so excited for you and  hope your day is great!   We have enjoyed the pasties from Pasty Central, as well as the thimbelberry jam from Giftnook.

I also enjoy keeping up with things in the UP as my father was raised in Calumet and I can show my children, via the internet, where he was from.  One of these years, we plan to visit.  Maybe we'll stop in to say HI.

Thanks for sharing your part of the counrty with us. Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY and ENJOY YOUR DAY!

Kay Kollsmith

I sincerely hope that you enjoy your very special day and this very special birthday.  You deserve it.....enjoy from a special pasty and UP Copper Country lover!

I went to the Edward Ryan grade school in the 1940's.  I believe Mrs Barth was my 3rd grade teacher and Mrs Rova my 6th grade teacher, and I'm pretty sure I had a Ms Sullivan as one of my  teachers (grade school or Junior High at Hancock Central High.  If that's you, I wish you the very best, and congratulations on such a wonderful birthday milestone.  The very best of pasties come from your home. My name is Richard Wiitanen, and I was born & raised in Hancock, Michigan. I currently work for the Boeing Company in Seattle, Washington but the Copper Country is always dear to my heart.  Once again..."Happy Birthday".

Dear Kathryn,

Sincere birthday greetings on your 100th!  What an accomplishment.  I am a retired school teacher, too, but at 76, I don't think I'll ever make it to the century mark!

Did you teach in Calumet?  I lived there on Fifth street above the Salvation Army meeting room.  I was the officer-in-charge in the mid-40's.   I married a Calumet girl (Helen Richards) whose parents were  Richard and Dorothy - (Dick and Dottie). They lived on Elm Street, not far from where you are living now! It was a large family of some 12 children.  One daughter married Sac Antioho who ran the store near the old depot.  You might have known some of the family.

I visited Calumet late last summer to call on my sister-in-law, Hilja Richards, who lives in the housing complex just behind your complex. I hadn't been back for more than 25 years, and such changes!!!!!  But it was great to see the town and recall the happy memories from the time I lived there.

All best wishes, Miss Sullivan!

Sincerely,

Miss Sullivan, I hope this finds you well and enjoying all the special attention you are getting for this wonderful time. My name is Sally (Hocking) Nelson and I have decided you probably know some of my relatives. My mom is Martha (Hillstrom) Hocking Bryan. My dad was Simon (Bub) Hocking. They both had oodles of siblings that I'm sure you may have know . In any case I hope you have a great time celebrating your birthday and eat lots of pasties and cake!!! Best wishes to all of you.

Happy belated birthday Kathryn from Durham, NC!

My daughter (also a Katherine) celebrated her 1st birthday on November 27, so it was quite the birthday weekend.  Best wishes and keep up the great pasty work!

Kathyrn-

I just wanted to wish you a very happy 100th birthday!  I think it's wonderful you're in good spirits and heath!  May God Bless you on your birthday and every day!  Again, have a wonderful birthday!

Love-

Catherine Kuntze (Chassell (now living in Virginia))

Dear Miss Sullivan,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I was priveleged to be in your last eighth grade class at the Washington School.  We were the eigth grade class of 1959.

I was fortunate to have grown up in an era when teachers cared about their students and understood the awesome responsibility of their position.  I also believe I was fortunate to have grown up in the Copper Country where these values counted more than most places.

My children are tired of hearing about the high quality of education we received and of the teachers that so influenced our lives, then and now.

I am glad I have had this chance to tell you about the positive influence your teaching had, and to wish you the happiest of birthdays!

All the best, Dan Kemp

Congratulations on your 100th birthday.  Stillwaters is a lovely place. My Great Aunt Verna Kangas works there. I am a 35 year old mother of three and I make an occasional batch of pasties myself but prefer to buy them. I often wonder how different the world will be if I live to a ripe old age. I hope you enjoy your party on Friday.

Dear Kathryn:

Happy Birthday to you!  And many, many, more to come.  If you can, please let us in on your secret for a lo-o-o-n-n-n-g life!  I hope my e-mail finds you in great spirit and health.

I logged into Pasty Central after returning from a trip to the city of Bath in England.  What a beautiful place.  I enjoyed the city so much as well as the people and, of course, pasties!  I could not find a place in New England (Boston area),  so I went on-line to try and gather original recipes to try (and again I say try) to make them the best I could here.  I have met with some success, but not quite there yet.  They tend to be dry and a little hard, while the pasty I had in England (and I had more than one!) seemed to have a gravy or sauce to keep them moist.  I would appreciate any advice you can give me.  Also, I could use any advice on life in general.  I am almost 40 years old, married, no kids, we both have full-time jobs.  Unfortunately, we have no children, so instead we save for retirement instead of college, and have fun fishing and boating. We do have a beautiful English Springer Spaniel (Gracie) whom we love as a child.  If there is anything that you would say to a middle-aged(?) woman, married 10 years, what would it be?

Please write back, I'd love to hear from you.  Only 100 -- you go girl!

Melinda

Happy Birthday to you on reaching the "Young" age of 100.  Do you attriubte your good health to the wonderful pasties you make?

Congratulations and many happy returns!

Sincerely, Colleen Thiessen and Mary Laginess
