Most of us who live here in the western U.P. make the pilgrimage to Marquette at least once during the holiday shopping season. Ontonagon's Z-Man took a break from the crowded malling, and sought a little serenity in the Park.

One of my favorite photos from the new Pasty Cam 2003 calendar is the back cover, a shot from the Z-Man we saw on these pages in October. It actually would make a pretty nice picture to frame and put on the wall.

Here, here...the autumn leaf picture is with great contrast and color. Glad that it made the calendar.

Love the deer warning sign, it just became my computer wallpaper. I'm planning a motorcycle trip through the UP for this summer, can't wait to get above the bridge again. Happy Holidays to all from a transplanted Michigander.

Though I always enjoy seeing all the photos of the UP I get especially homesick when I see something from Mqt county. Having grown up 1 block from "the" lake and summering in a cottage on "the" (Superior of course!), I love to see scenes from home. Don't let all the snow melt, we'll be up to ski in one week. Thanks for a very great year of photos, I come by your site almost every day. If I miss a few, I always take time to wander through the archives. back to my reckless youth.

I too check the site daily and change my screen saver and background several times a week using pictures from Pasty.com. Being from MQT (grew up 2 blocks from Gitchee-Gummee), having a camp in Republic, and graduating from NMU, I am especially fond of the pictures from the central U.P. Thanks so much for making someone who is stuck in Illinois think of home everyday. Have a great Holiday season and a great New Year.

As a NMU student I walked to "the lake" almost every night after dinner and spent LOTS of time at Presque Isle (maybe even a submarine race or two). My most favorite memory is walking the perimeter in winter during a soft snowfall. I fell in love with the place during a visit to Marquette at the ripe old age of 9. My love affair continues and I've passed it on to my kids who's first desire when we're in Marquette is to go out there.

Just how do they get those deer to cross at the signs?!

Presque Isle Park! Do the albino deer still live there?

I don't know about the albino deer, but one winter I went on a patrol to keep the park free of snow snakes.

Yes, there are still albino deer, but there's been a lot of deliberate thinning of the herd so generally there are a lot fewer deer on "the island" these days.

To Alex in GA, re Paul Keckonen. I don't know him, but we must have some family history together. My grandfather was Paul Keckonen. My great grandfather, also Paul Keckonen immigrated from Finland and raised their families in Gay, MI Still have relatives in Gay. Most of the children in the family moved to lower Michigan for work. So I still have family in that part of the state.

Presque Isle is my favorite place in Marquette. We are introducing it to each of our grandchildren and enjoying it through their young eyes. Thank you for the pictures from there to remind me of my second home [we were there with the USAF in the early '60's] Also interested in the letterboxing, have bookmarked the site, have already been carving stamps for years, and now a unique way to use them.

It also has a search for reference records, taken from the church calendars and papers.

My name is Paul Keckonen, great-grandson of Paul Keckonen. The Paul Alex was asking about is my/our cousin. I believe he lives in Howell michigan, I have not seen him since I was a kid though.

I like pasty address. I'm yearning for a good U.P. pasty. Been several years since I've been back to Marquette County. Looking forward to Finn Fest to be held in Marquette in 2005. Grew up on US41 between Marquette and Negaunee. Attended Mich. Tech and Northern Michigan University. Planning to vacation in Finland next summer and work on genealogy--Found this site showing Presque Isle--my favorite spot-used to walk out out on the breakwater towards lighthouse. Recently heard about Silver Lake Dam breaking and damage all the way to Lake Superior. I used to swim in Dead River at a camp along the river in Negaunee Township. That was probably washed out.
