When the top photo first appeared on the Pasty Cam, we discovered it was Grandma Edith Moyle Fillbrook, who lived on Baraga Street in Houghton. The 1940's shot was also in the Detroit Free Press, in a story - not about turkey - but about pasties.

It is sure good to see Jack Stevens. My family got are first snowmobile, a 1967 olympique Ski-doo, from Jack, as I am sure many families did. I gave that sled away a couple of years ago, to someone who was in need of a track. I wish a wonderful, and blessed Thanksgiving to all.

Jack is alive and well and thankful for all the friends he made over the years. Consider this his holiday greetings to everyone. Happy Thanksgiving from the the Jack Stevens' family.

Is this the same Jack Stevens who lived in Hubbell and took chickens to the UP State Fair
every summer? I remember walking to LeBlanc's Grocery or the Post Office and hearing his roosters crowing and the hens clucking in the back yard. I lived on the Tamarack side of the C&H trestle then. Across from the steam plant.

I only have internet access when I am visiting my sister in Berlin and I ALWAYS have a look at the newest Keweenaw pictures. What a wonderful site for people like me, who lives half of the year in the Keweenaw... the best place on earth!!!!!!! What a great surprise.... Jack Stevens and Liisa looked at me this morning (two friends who I know through Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly).Jack, Liisa and the rest of the family...hope you had a happy Thanksgiving.

Many know this Jack Stevens as "Mr. Ski-Doo" of the copper country. Jack and his wife owned and operated Superior Service Garage in Houghton. He was the first snowmobile dealer in the Copper Country and one of the only small engine repair places to make house calls 7 days a week. Though he has been totally blind for nearly 15 years, he does not let that get him down. He enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and swims at MTU three times a week. His hobby is keeping in touch with friends by phone. His family is very appreciative of all that his friends do for him, including rides to his favorite restaurant, the Suomi Cafe,rides to swimming, phone calls, visits and just keeping in touch. Jack is also the same as the "Jack Stevens snowmobile trail" from Hancock to Calumet. Only in the Copper Country could we be blessed with so many friends!!!

Isn't the internet wonderful? Thanks Pasty Cam, for allowing me to see my Dad and niece this holiday season!! Was this photo from the Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly Thanksgiving dinner in South Range? It is so wonderful that Dad and Liisa can be there together, and serve as volunteers to visit with the others who have no family close enough to celebrate the holiday.

I bought a used 1937 Terraplane in 1950 and had some trouble and Jack Stevens helped getting it running by sitting on the fender with the hood off and adjusting the distributor as we pushed it along the road. He was a couple of years ahead of me in Houghton high school and played basketball if I am remembering correctly. At the moment I am on a trip in Shanghai, China, so pasty.com is a great tool to stay in touch.,.

Wasn't Jack's dad on the Houghton city council in the early 50's..

Yes, Bob, My Gramps, (Jack's Dad) was the mayor of Houghton when Isle Royale was dedicated as a national park. Gram Stevens told about how they rode over on the South American (a Great Lakes Passenger ship)to the dedication.
I called Dad and read your note, and he does recall the "Terraplane"- and how touchy they were to get adjusted!! Yes, he played HHS basketball, and graduated in 1946. Do you ever attend the HHS reunions?? the "all class reunion" is in July 2003 again!!

Last year we had a picture of the South American from Nancy Nelson. That's how we started the "Shoebox Memory" weekly feature on the Pasty Cam.

The Stevens' were friends of my dad's and I recall the day my dad bought his ski-doo from Jack. We were at the SS garage and Joan and Julie were there. Julie and I compared our ages and determined that we would be in school together next year! At four years old I remember thinking of Julie as being quite rowdy! They had donuts and Joan admonished the dog that he could not eat donuts and she wouldn't give him one! Thanks for the great memories. I was Connie Messner back in those days!
