Perhaps you saw the notice of this event on the Pasty Cam in November. Hundreds of Keweenaw and Copper Country hunters turned out to vote on the Best Buck of 2000 and best all time, as well as share a good meal of wild game and hear Deer Dr. Les Ollila. Les grew up in the northern suburbs of Mohawk (yeah, right) and tonight he related how that he has missed so many deer over the years, he tried to hit one on the highway just to get even.

Pastor Hart is the retired Camp Director of Gitche Gumee in Eagle River and First Baptist in Calumet. In 1958 he bagged this buck in Ontonagon County while he was out for a stroll in the woods.

By the way, Les and Pastor Hart appeared with his other dear (Joyce) back in August of '98 (no, not 1898), when Les presented Charles with his honorary doctors degree. Perhaps Pastor Hart is the real Deer Doctor.

Officially there were 191 hunters there. However, the number of hunters there was over 200. What an excellant night! I'm not a hunter myself but it was neat to see the deer and hear the stories. Thanks to all who cooked, set up and cleaned up, and of course the hunters without which this evening would not have been possible. Can't wait 'til next year!

I can't believe how little Rev. Hart has aged! And we went to school with Dr. Les. What a neat surpise to find the pics on the 'net' Thanks you all.

We all should look as good as Pastor Charles Hart when we are 86 years old!! (from his prejudiced daughter). P.S. His voice is just as strong and booming as ever too.

Your picture stirs up the best memories of the great times growing up with the special kids from Mohawk and the leadership of Pastor Hart. You all know who you are. Love to all.

What fun! Charles is my old pastor when I was growing up and Les and his brother Earl were great friends of my late brother John Hocking. Boy, I could tell some stories...What a bunch of nuts. I graduated with Les and also attended several services at Pastor Hart's church as our youth groups used to get together often. What a man of God with such a caring, compassionate heart! One word for "youse hunters out dere"--be careful of those deer ticks--they DO carry Lyme disease in this state, regardless of what the Dpt. of Public Health may say--my six-year battle never ceases with this awful disease, and early treatment is CRITICAL--call the 800# (MLDA) if you have questions are need free information.
