Here in the U.P. the northernmost county is Keweenaw, and for those of you unfamiliar with the area, this county reaches almost to the shores of Canada. Of course I'm talking about Isle Royale National Park, which is part of Keweenaw County, but about 42 miles out in Lake Superior (if you leave from Eagle Harbor that is!). Dan VanWasshenova snapped a shot looking out towards distant Thunder Bay, which is actually about 18 miles from the Island. Looks like Dan and friend took an early trip to the Park, to enjoy hiking and camping before the busy summer season starts. Not too much longer and I'll be over there capturing a few scenic sights myself... can't wait!

Good Morning from Wisconsin, the other part of God's Country. I love the UP. Have spent time there snowmobiling and just enjoying the trees in the fall. Can't wait til we come back in the fall.

As a very recent transplant to the UP (Sedar Bay), I'm slowly beginning to forget the "City Lights" and "ANY TIME" shopping hours; and am especially enjoying magnificent sunsets over Lake Superior. I look forward to all interesting/fun stuff the Keweenaw has to offer, including the four seasons which I have yet to experience. It's fun to view UP photos on Pasty.net as well as comments by Yoopers (current, displaced, and wannabees). To all, best wishes and welcome to the UP whenever you can make it up here! We welcome you all. Just watch out for the drivers who don't signal and turn right in front of you and then drive 20 miles an hour! EEK!

Maybe someone from IRNP can verify this, but I believe that the Park, FOR ITS SIZE, has the most visitors of all the National Parks. Read that somewhere--maybe in the park's Management Plan.

Brent, I looked it up in my Webster's. The word you want is "pedantic". As I am an editor by trade and inclination, you can't insult me by hurling either word in my direction. Do permit me to suggest, however, that any criticism of Mary and the other Pasty Camers be delivered directly to them, and not via this board. Manners matter.

To Bob Fartas, re: 'where's Isle Royale' from Michigan(d)ers...I remember hearing about some comment made about my adoptive state of Illinois that some were unaware that the Mississippi River borders the state's west edge! For some one who's hobby is maps and geography in general, I cringe to hear such ignorance!

To Gotta Love da UP-- Unless your back seat contains a woman giving birth or someone bleeding to death, you don't ever "have" to drive 80 mph. Look at where you live. Slow down and smell the pine trees!

pasty in the oven.... I've never been to Isle Royal.... must do that before I croak.... its on my list
I grew up up there and didn't even see Bond Falls until I went on vacation back there about 10 years ago... never saw the west side of the Porkies until last year...
was only to Marquette twice in before the age of 18....
never went East of Marquette, other than when KI sawyer was built....and the one trip over the straits on the ferry when I was 5.
After reading, remembered this (for the german yoopers whose existence I assume with "Haus", "Fest" etc. around): Ein Neger mit Gazelle zagt im Regen nie!
