Wandering through the Pasty Cam Guest Gallery last night I stumbled on a wonderful collection of old family pictures from the Seppala farm in Covington, scanned by Kriss Schrandt. Little Bob and Jim are ready to take off into the wild blue yonder with their passenger Mr. Teddy Bear back in 1944. If they were in the U.P. this weekend, they'd be dressed just about right, as it has been a chilly spring.

With his eyes closed, Jim's face reminds me of a test pilot in training, his features distorted by the acceleration. Bob has that classic look of a courageous airman climbing to his cockpit.

Good Morning from windy West TExas....our spring is quickly turning over to summer with temps expected to rise close to 90 this week...no more open windows...hello AC. Gas prices here are inching toward 1.90 to 1.93 a gallon. Can't wait to hit the UP this summer!!!!!!! Anybody have any info on the All School reunion at LLHS?????? Mary?????

Temps here have been in the 100s, and we've had some dust storms the last few days, but gas is less than 80 cents a gallon!

family complete with detachable handle and
foot plate/rest. Would guess it to be from
around late 30`s to early 40`s. Things were
built to last in those days

We have a stroller exactly like that in very GOOD condition up in the attic stored away! Although I did "restore" and paint it up about 30 years ago.------30 years ago!!!???? where did the time go?

The stroller design found in the pictures dates back to at least the late 1920s. I had one in 1927. My father later used the seat to make me a toy steam shovel with swivel seat and the levers to control the boom and scoop mounted on the front.
I still have this toy.

Peter, things sure were built to last in those days! I have the high chair that my grandmother bought used in Trout Creek when my father was born in 1933--all wood, including the foot rest--with a tin tray that attaches over the wooden one. It was used for me when I was a kid and I used it for my son when he was born 15 years ago. Its still in great shape and should last another 70 years.

This is such a sweet picture of these two little boys! Reminds me of a picture of my brother Tom when he was about 2!

I remember seeing that when very young and thinking it was kinda scary but as we got older and braver, we would stand right by the lift span as it was lifting and hold our hand under it to create the appearance that we were single-handedly lifting the span! We were "anything happening" away from falling 200 feet to certain death. I can't believe I survived my teen years around that bridge. We would even crawl out onto the cement platforms that hold the bridge and were just two feet away from hypothermic drowning if anyone lost their balance. There would be no hope for us. In our careless youth, that didn't even occur to us. They have fences up now to keep kids like I was out of there. Good thing for that!!
