By Toivo from Toivola on Saturday, May 1, 2004 - 08:30 am: Ah, springtime in Keweenaw. To capture the peaceful, new beginnings of the area, we turn to one of our newest Guest Gallery contributors, Rebecca Jennings. This is a good shot to find some tranquillity and calm after a hectic week of finishing up the springtime chores. Had to rake up last years leaves that somehow were missed in the fall, took down the tree protectors, swept the sand off the edge of the yard where it accumulates from the snowplow and did an inventory of how much wood needs to be chopped for next winter. Time to sit back with a kupin of kahvia and enjoy the view! By d on Saturday, May 1, 2004 - 08:38 am:
Good Morning, another glorious day in the CC. I wanted to get an early post on here today to share something that really left an impact on me yesterday. It was an article about a local man named Neil Isaacson. Just a short time back there was discussion revolving around the meaning of the word "SISU". Well, please go to the Daily Mining Gazette site and read the article about Neil and his 'Sandy Pebbles Golf Course'. I believe his story is an excellent reflection of what "SISU' is all about. His 9-hole course is open, it may be a little rough, but it is a statement on one man's determination to succeed regardless of odds. If their was an award for "SISU", Neil has my vote!!! The article (part of it) can be read at this site.. enjoy!! By Barb Nelson, Jacobsville, MI on Saturday, May 1, 2004 - 08:39 am:

Belvoir VA on Saturday, May 1, 2004 - 10:50 am: I miss seeing the birch trees. I could go for a pasty and my Grandma's potato sausage, with her brownies for dessert. She makes the best! Hey...Down here in Troll Land that piece of property would be marketed as "Prime Lakefront" and would fetch a healthy price. Then someone would build a million dollar house on it. By kalena on Saturday, May 1, 2004 - 11:47 am: By Bill, Ca. on Saturday, May 1, 2004 - 12:19 pm: Some of the most memorable times in my life as a small child was sitting near a beaver dam and watching the beavers as they built and repaired their dam. We spent the summer at the "Eagles Nest" which was a large home built by the Garden City Mining Co.and located at the top of the Garden City hill in Eagle River. I was about six years old(1931)and could walk through the woods to see my "friends". But then the Michigan Conservation Department came and broke the dam and replaced it with concrete. The beavers disappeared and today it appears to be a fishing pond. By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Saturday, May 1, 2004 - 01:24 pm: The husband says about todays flick, "Just makes ya want to bundle up in a heavy fleece jacket, woolen mitts, cap and heavy boots and toss a fishing line out and sit and watch. Not the fisherman he is, I would choose in the travel trailer, good book and hot chocolate. I put the pic on my screen saver. By maijaMI on Saturday, May 1, 2004 - 01:24 pm:

It certainly does define SISU. Maybe I'll take a little drive up there from Florida and play that course and get lucky enough to meet that man. Want to meet me there cousin Bob? |
