On your way back and forth across the U.P., maybe you've passed this familiar structure. There are lots of stand-alone landmarks like this, each with an interesting story I'm sure. Can you believe there's still so much snow up north?

A bit more spring-like near Lexington tonight, staying near Kentucky Horse Park. Miles and miles of white fences. A pleasant state, though the weather hasn't been the best. Next time I take a trip like this, better a little later in the season. And next time probably not alone.

I think you're right about that building south of Bruce Crossing. It's just down the long hill, about half way to Paulding. Some of my UP relatives held their wedding bashes there.

Speaking of Bruce Crossing, did you hear that Grama Gruder's burned down. My aunt Vi and I would always go for dinner there, whenever I was in the Ewen/Bruce Crossing area.

Toni, thanks for the vote of confidence. Toivo has been doing the weekday Pasty Cam while he's on his trip, and he's determined to hit all 50 states. It's been nice to wake up to the new daily picture, so I may ask Toivo to continue even after his nationwide safari is complete.

We are working on some ideas to enable Pasty Cammies to upload their pictures to these pages, like Maki in Korea did with his beautiful Bond Falls/Porkies photos, but without those annoying pop-up windows like 'Webshots' has.

I've been busy these days with some critical issues at Still Waters, the Home for the Aged which started this website almost eight years ago... also, we've been busy with the phenomenal growth of Pasty.NET: an ever-increasing nationwide dial-in membership, as well as our wireless expansion here in the Copper Country. Never a dull moment :o)

It is south of Bruce Crossing. It is the Trout Creek Township Town Hall. The people of Trout Creek would wait for their Basketball Team to come home after they won their many state championships back in the 70's. I grew up in White Pine. We got beat many times.

My wife and I are heading home next week to Bumbletown Hill. I left the UP when I was 19 and I am heading home at 49. No place else better in the world. I know that now.

Maple Grove Town Hall on US 45 between Bruce Crossing and Paulding. Attended a few good wedding receptions and polka dances in the old building.

Toivo must be very determined if he is going to hit all 50 states indeed. 48 would deem a worthy effort, 49 viable via automobile, but our 50th state will present tribulation save for altering the mode of transportation to a more "aerial" form if you will.

Speaking of Bruce Crossing, has anyone heard of any plans to rebuild Gramma Gruders?. I miss stopping there for some of Teresa's great Coconut Creme pie.

Nope, I think all you guys are wrong. I don't recall the town hall south of Bruce Crossing being this well kept. And I don't think it had a second level or that it was this big. Isn't there a town hall, maybe this one, or looks like it near Eagle River, Michigan? Maybe i'll have to come up and look for it....ha.ha!!

This is the Haight Township Hall just south of Bruce Crossing. It was built the same year that my father was born. It is located between Bruces and Paulding. Jim Johnson tranplanted yooper from Bruces.

My dad's first name was Edward. What was your dad's name, I can't remember him but I do remember your uncle Marvin and your Grandmother, both very nice people. I would imagine your dad went school in Gay too?

Ahh, the good old town of Gay I know it well. Lost in time somewhere in the early 1900's I do believe, if one listens carefully one can hear the old stamp mill hard at work, the shrill blowing of of the lunch whistle, the laughter of the children at a school picnic in the Gay park. Yet Gay is alive and well indeed in the 21st century what with a spanking new sewage treatment plant as well as a lively population of good down-home folk, hardy whitetails ghosting through the woods and slippery steelhead plying the challenging waters of the mighty Tobacco.

Ahh, this could be a trick question. On my computer the picture is coming up all white. The Maple Grove building is actually a pleasing shade of yellow. It has a nice garden in the center of the circle drive. Also, if you pay attention while climbing the hill heading south, you may be treated to a view of one of the many Bald Eagles that reside in this area and that are on the watch for some fresh road kill.
