Recently my father Robert Murto, of Atlantic Mine and Indiana, has located this family picture, taken about 1935. My grandfather Alfred Murto purchased a Bombardier conversion kit for his 1930 Model A and built this snowmobile, here parked at the family farm just north of Atlantic Mine on Old Mill Road. He used it to deliver RFD mail from the Atlantic Mine post office. Robert says this was often the only vehicle that traveled on many winter roads.

Was watching the NCAA final four last night and was wondering, did that company in Dollar Bay (whose name I can't remember) make the floor for the games this year?

When I was a kid my dad ran the Standard Oil service across the street from Santori Brothers tire service. Santori's had a Model A like the one above. I was wonder if anyone remembers it.

Sure do enjoy the shoebox memories. Bombardier, just stated that the company is selling its original recreational products division,the maker of snowmobiles, which employ 3,000 workers in Quebec. We old C & H families know what that is like!!!!!!!!

Mark,the name of the company in Dollar Bay that makes gym floors is Horner Flooring. They have a nice new plant now.I don't know if they made that floor but they probably did.Someone will most likely know. They had a tour of the plant this summer during the reunion but I couldn't make the tour.However some one gave me one of the small pieces that was a scrap cut off of a finished floor.It is beautiful. My Dad worked there a long time ago.I remember as a kid we would buy loads of the cut offs for fuel. It was real cheap and us kids had the job of throwing it under the porch. It made a hot fire.

Bob in Kiel there is a pasty shop on Wisconin avenue in Appleton just before you get to Highway 41. You can get pasty's in Brillion at the restraunt on the corner of 10 and PP.

How about that....another Murto....My grandfather was John August Murto & he & his wife Lily Murto lived in Paynesville Michigan. Just a shot in the dark. Any relation? Thank you!

In talking further with Robert, the date of this picture is closer to 1938, when he was about 7 years old. He was quite disappointed that Alfred sold the machine in the early 40's rather than saving it for him. Still is. The front skis and the rear tracks could be removed and regular tires re-installed for summer driving.
