No doubt, one hundred years ago on this very morning young "Maudie" Sincock woke up with the growing excitement of her upcoming trip to America. During those days her father Frank was separated from the family. They were in Cornwall and he was in Hancock, where he worked at Quincy Mine. He had made the trip last fall (1911) to this new job, and it was time to bring the family back over, too. I say "back over" because they had lived in North America previously for awhile - actually in Canada - and it was during that time that little Maude was born. By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Sunday, March 25, 2012 - 09:48 am: My favorite movie about that tragedy was "A Night To Remember". Very hauntingly sad occurance.....all those poor souls. By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, March 25, 2012 - 10:10 am: My sweetie would not be here today if it was not for his mom getting sick as a child. His mothers family had passage on the Titanic and his mother, as a child, got sick so they either gave away the tickets or sold them. And here he is today, my sweetie. ;O) By Paul Roberts (Grizzlyadams) on Sunday, March 25, 2012 - 10:26 am: So was Maude a survivor? Certainly a sad story but at the same time there were some pretty incredible stories within the tragedy. Of course I'm in no way discounting those who died. By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Sunday, March 25, 2012 - 10:27 am: Thanks for the link. That is an amazing story. By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Sunday, March 25, 2012 - 10:30 am: Shirley, I second the movie, "A Night To Remember" a favorite! By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, March 25, 2012 - 10:43 am: Maude did survive. She was put on boat 11 with other passengers. She passed away in 1984. By S. Hill (Azfinn) on Sunday, March 25, 2012 - 12:40 pm:
I remember Mrs. Roberts. She was a sweet lady. Her By Peter Ouillette (Peterouillette) on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 - 05:35 pm: In 1981 a class from Hancock's EL Wright elementary school sang a song about the Titanic at their spring program; I was in first grade at the time. I remember Mrs. Roberts being invited up on stage and being given flowers. And the refrain of the song was "It was sad when the great ship went down." Thanks very much for posting this memory. |
