Originally, the Great Lakes Shipping Season was to end on January 15th, but because of weather related delays the past few weeks, namely gale force winds, the Poe lock will remain open an additional 3 days, closing now instead, on January 18th. This freighter, captured by Jennifer Ellis Jervis, was headed west, between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor. Most likely on one of its last runs of the shipping season and then will spend the two months off, in dry dock somewhere. By Jane Marie Newell (Janen) on Saturday, January 14, 2012 - 09:30 am: What a wonderful picture of the freighter, looks so close to land. Wish we knew what freighter that is....the stack looks like an American Steamship Line. So many changes have been made in GL shipping in the last 10 years, I'm not even sure that AS even exists anymore. Nice pictures!! I need a larger camera with a nice zoom lens so I can see those ships better!! By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, January 14, 2012 - 12:10 pm: Could be, Rowdy, I'm pretty sure it's a 'footer'. Maybe someone with a better equipped computer than mine can hone in on it and let us know? By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Saturday, January 14, 2012 - 02:46 pm:
At 2:45PM EST today, the Marine Traffic Map shows the PRESQUE ISLE (southwest bound, destination: Two Harbors), the EDGAR V SPEER (eastbound, destination: Conneaut), and the RT HON PAUL J MARTIN (eastbound, destination: Nanticoke) off the Keweenaw. By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Saturday, January 14, 2012 - 03:27 pm: Thanks for the freighter fix today. By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Saturday, January 14, 2012 - 05:55 pm: The second picture is incredible, love it. |
