By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 05:20 am:
There were plenty of stories out there this weekend, about the Saturday night arrival of the fullest moon in 18 years, and we were lucky enough to have a few pictures of it arrive here at Pasty Central. The first appeared from Jon Hopper early yesterday on the weekly Shoebox Memory, in case you missed it. Then came our first shot above from Dave Dalquist and to tell you the truth, when it arrived in my Inbox, I was skeptical as to whether it was an original shot or if it had been altered, because the moon in it is so huge. But I consulted with Dave and he explained that he was just in the right place, at the right time, plus he had his equipment with him to take this amazing photo. By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 05:40 am: Thank You for these pics for this was my only chance to see this moon. Clouds moved in of course to ruin chances of seeing it here in Eastern Iowa. By Donna (Donna) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 05:50 am:
Wow...beautiful....I went down to the shore to watch the moonrise too, and saw a slit of it before it went behind the clouds....nothing to write home about! By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 06:04 am: I saw it, but it didn't look quite as big here in Motown area. By Gary W. Long (Gary_in_co) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 08:21 am: It's like holding the little fish that you just caught closer to the camera to make it appear bigger. You ain't follin' me!! Throw it back!! Hi By Gary W. Long (Gary_in_co) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 08:22 am: By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 09:08 am: We got some beautiful shots of the Supermoon as well just after we got back to Texas from our Spring Break trip. When it first started coming up here, it was a bright ruby red, then went to orange and then white; quite an amazing sight!! By Dave D. (Ddalquist) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 10:22 am:
The first photo with the bridge & Mont Ripley was actually taken 12/20/10, and as memory serves (questionable!), it seemed bigger than Saturday's. By chris anderson (Ythchris) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 10:24 am:
The trajectory is incorrect for the full moon on By JAD, Orgnst (Jandalq) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 10:30 am: David's brother, sister-in-law, and I can vouch for his bridge-over-the-ski-hill shot. We viewed it in his camera shortly after he got the shot. The Traverse City shot with that pine tree silhouetted is a beauty also. By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 10:30 am: Dave D...that is an awesome picture!!! Thank You for sharing!! By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 01:24 pm:
I got to the lake just a half hour too late By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 02:37 pm: Thanks 4 preserving these Moon pics. By Norma in Midland (Normainmidland) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 02:51 pm: The moon in Mid-Michigan was awesome! We didn't have any clouds so it was really in plain view. And the moon was HUGE! By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 05:47 pm: Great shot Dave; what type of camera equipment are you using?? By Stewart Keskitalo (Skeskitalo) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 07:20 pm: It sure is a pleasure to return to the beautiful Copper Country and Pasty.com for some beauty and light heartedness when you hear of the horrors in Japan, and the mess in the Middle East (God Bless Our Servicemen.} But the pictures of the Copper Country remind me what I miss most ( my childhood memories). WJR in Detroit was talking about tourism in Michigan but nary a mention of the UP as I tried to wait my turn in line on the Paul W Smith show. Too bad! By Dave D. (Ddalquist) on Monday, March 21, 2011 - 09:23 pm: Paul: Both photos were taken with a Canon 7D and a 300/f4. The 7D uses an APS-C size sensor that effectively increases the focal length of any lens by 1.6x; therefore, the 300mm lens becomes equivalent to a 480mm. It's been a very good combination. By Capt.
