A B-47 bomber!!
By Bruce (Bessemerbj) on Thursday, April 29, 2010 - 05:51 am: Nice photo of the B-47. 2 of these bombers crashed in the Winter/Spring of 1961 just across the border from Ironwood, MI. Actually a third small private plane nose dived into the ice of Gile Flowage that Winter so they had 3 plane crashes within a few miles of each other in 1961. The first B-47 crash in Feb killed all 4 crew members. The second crash in May killed 2 and 2 survived. The private plane crash had 2 fatalities. In Detroit we were on Belle Isle watching an airshow and the stunt pilot went under the bridge to Belle Isle. I think the story was he lost his license for that. We were kids and had a Belle and Howell movie camera, an 8mm kind. My brother has the movies and I am going to get them from him. Great decade in review. The photo of the B-47 is great, as well. By Robert - CO (Halork) on Thursday, April 29, 2010 - 02:49 pm: Nothing passed under the "Mackinaw" Bridge. The Mackinac Bridge, on the other hand.... ;-) (Sorry, I grew up on the eastern end; one of my pet peeves.)
