The next best thing to viewing Calumet from the air, is getting up on a rooftop for a skyline vista. That's just what Dan Brown did recently. And what a scene he captured with the sky a shining pink color, emphasizing the church spires, chimney and even what looks like the Swedetown landmark water towers off in the distance. I had never noticed before, but it looks like there's a chimney next to St. Paul's Church (perhaps part of the rectory), which also has a cross on the top of it. Or is it something other than a chimney? By Deb S. It should have a historical marker in front of it. By michael j. adams (Adzie40) on Saturday, May 23, 2009 - 08:53 am: good morning everyone. i believe the tower is the chimney from the morrison school, and the cross is from the church over on portland street. pretty good optical illusion. great pics!!! By DEAN SCHWARTZ SR. (Lulu) on Saturday, May 23, 2009 - 10:44 am: Good morning from Hohenwald, Tennessee. The wife and I are down here for the graduation of our two grand-sons. The graduation services were held out-side. We enjoyed a wonderful night, the weather was very nice (80 degrees). We are looking foward to being in the Copper Country the last week in July and Aug, for our family renuion, In Lake Linden. Every one have a safe Memorial Day. By Gary W. Long (Gary_in_co) on Saturday, May 23, 2009 - 10:48 am: The second photo looks like the kind of steeple where I would picture Quasimodo in the dimly lit shadows pulling on the rope to ring the bell. By Donna (Donna) on Saturday, May 23, 2009 - 04:35 pm: Wow...those are both phenomenal pictures!!! By Cindy Hill (Cindyhill) on Saturday, May 23, 2009 - 06:01 pm: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO DAN AND BETSY BROWN - 1st Anniversary tomorrow. God Bless you for many more years. By Jay Balliet (Jfactor1) on Saturday, May 23, 2009 - 10:17 pm: I'm not sure it the double steepled church (St. Joseph's i believe) has a historical marker in front or not, but you can take a tour, which I highly recommend. The fresco over the altar alone is worth checking out. |
