By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 05:10 am: Not all birds fly south for the winter, which is a very good thing, because the winter months would seem much longer if we didn't have these feathered friends to feed and watch as the flit about. Robert C. Wetton snapped a Purple Finch as it was busy looking somewhere else. Then Frederic W. Koski was able to capture a little song bird as it performed a balancing act on a dried looking weed. Quite an amazing feat, to be able to perch like that on something so unstable looking. I'm not able to put a name to this little bird, but am hoping that one of our Pasty Cam viewers can help me out with that problem. Anyone? He looks like a chipping sparrow to me! By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 07:24 am: I'm glad they don't all fly south too. Winter would be much longer without them. I, too, think it is some kind of sparrow. By dotti caldwell (Dotti) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 09:55 am: Love the bird shots too! These are both very nice! By RCW (Rcw) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 11:17 am: I have to give credit to Mrs RCW for taking that photo. By Jacobsville (Barb) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 12:39 pm: Wow, Shirley, you're good with the camera too!! By David C Cloutier (Dccloutier) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 01:06 pm: I am guessing that the second bird is a song sparrow, but not positive... By Ashley Stelmack (Ashleymack) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 01:46 pm: That is a chipping sparrow for sure. By Sunrise Side MI (Ilovelucy2) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 04:02 pm: Birds are my Favorite too. I love trying to capture them in photos. Right now I am trying to lure the pileated woopecker family to our big suet bag. Hope they find it. Ellen By Renee in AL (Renee) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 04:36 pm:
Very nice bird pictures! The second one definitely is a song sparrow. By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 10:22 pm:
Fred's pic is not a chipping sparrow. My book shows the chipping sparrow to have a red 'hat', a black bar through the eye, and a white breast. I can't find this little guy in my book. By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 11:30 pm:
Definetly NOT a Song or Chipping Sparrow. |
