If you're a wave watcher on Lake Superior, you already know that you can view some pretty amazing water displays in the month of November. Thanks to Aladino Mandoli, we have a perfect example from the breakwall at the Marquette Harbor. Actually when you look at the Lake, it doesn't look all that stirred up, but it must be coming toward the wall at a good speed and just the right angle to make an impressive spray of water. Fair warning to anyone venturing out to observe the Lake Superior... if the water is worked up and splashing around like this, stay well clear of the breakwall. Otherwise you could get accidentally sucked into the water and with the temperature this time of year, that's not a good thing. It's best to give this Great Lake the respect she deserves and not take any chances.

I love heading to "Breakers" out on the Houghton side of the canal to photograph the big waves. But inevitably, any time the waves are high enough to make some really good spray, somebody out there feels the need to walk out on the breakwater and get drenched. Luckily I haven't had to haul anyone out of the water yet, and I hope I never have to.

That is really gorgeous. A friend of mine sent me a picture a little like that one. She's got some great pictures of the lake in the Marquette area also.

I think some college kid did drown, a few years ago, going out on a pier near Holland, Michigan when the waves were high (not sure; it may have been a different beach town). Big waves are fascinating, but nothing to take chances with.

Beautiful picture! When the winds reach 35 to 40 mph from the NW, I make a special drive from Hancock to the Calumet Waterworks so I can take in the wild action of Lake Superior...the energy is something to behold.

There is a plaque at the entrance- if you will- to the breakwaters with the kids name on it and how old they were and the date they died.
I do not like to go on Lake Superior- any way shape or form.

Lake Superior can be a treat as well as wild. All the many Sunset Cruises out of Copper Harbor my hubby and I have been on, she was always a delight!

Michael....COMMON SENSE. So many though have never been around water and know not it's power. Those who sit through hurricanes realize that eventually. We get powerful electricity from wind and water! Beautiful picture!
