Where is Keystone Beach?

Oh, my that picture of Bete Grise is sooooo beautiful. I wish I could be there right now...I can hear the water lapping at the stones and smell the good clean air....aaaaahhhhhh. Michigan is the BEST place in the world.

Keystone Bay is about 8 miles beyond the end of US41 past Copper Harbour on the tip of the peninsula. It is a fun trip but one that must be done with 4x4. Just watch out for the beaver pond as I'm sure Uncle Chuck can attest to....

I don't know Cindy; I'm sure there are quite a few people here that would claim Texas is the BEST place in the world (too bad they'd be wrong!! ;-)

Cap'n Paul...my daughter recently visited the Qunicy Mine for the tour and was very disappointed. She said the tour guide whizzed them through the tour and didn't stop long enough for a picture or a question or a breath. Looks like you need to get your old job back.

Gee, now that reminds of my Engineer ROTC Summer Camp at "Fort Lost-in-the-woods, in the State of Misery" … especially building that timber trestle bridge across the Big Piney River down in that hot humid gully!

I have mentioned this before but here I go again. lol I was on my honeymoon in Copper Harbor in 1989, and trying to make Keystone Bay in a Ford F-150 (not a 4x4) my husband and I were stuck in the mud a few times and lost just as many before turning around and escaping with our lives. Because the black flies and mosquito's were thick as molasses, and we had no provisions to spend the night in 'da bush'. I normally am a hardy person, but I was in tears thinking we were not going to survive the night out there. We bottomed out in a puddle and dented the cab underbelly on the passager side. The bang was so loud and the bump so intense I bruised the soft underarm of my right arm that was resting on the windowsill. Imagine trying to tell my friends back home that my new husband had not punched me in the arm. I didn't make it to the Bay, and we never tried again. When we got back to town it was after 9:30pm and the owners of the bar found us something to eat since the kitchen was closed, and then they told what we tried to traverse was a snowmoblile trail at best.

if someone would lend me a few thousand, I would love to buy a Toyota FJ Cruiser and make that trip to the tip. Its my dream goal...
plus I could then hit all those old logging roads and sort of roads that you can't get through without the 4x4...
30 grand is all I need. PAypal is OK...or you can just mail me a bank draft.

Theresa, I have previously posted a similar story to yours. We were in a high-road-clearance 4X4 with my cousin, a local, who has been there countless times. Didn't get stuck, but got lost and came back. UP there, ya gotta know where da h you are goin

"KEYSTONE BAY" is a great place to visit, either by 4x4 or by water from Lac La Belle or Copper Harbor. If you go by land out of CH, you probably should have a 4x4, and when you make the turn to Keystone Bay, STOP at the Beaver ••••, don't try to drive thru it. When the •••• is high, it's 5ft. deep! Hike around it, then go to the beach. (We drown Marty's truck there not too long ago. When it was towed to town, the tow truck driver stated "customer took truck swiming" on the tow bill.) My preference is to go by boat, simply because there are very few bugs, and it's a different look at the lay of the land. Either way, bring your camping gear and the Voolwerth's Makarah and have a great time in the Keweenaw, Live it U.P.!!!!!!

Thanks for the great information on where to stay in Houghton. The Super 8 on the water is great!! We took a trip today to Copper Harbor and had to stop at the famous "The Hut". I was a little bummed as there was no pasties there. Although, I do have to say they had GREAT food! We went around back to Pasty Central but no one was there. Bummer again, we were thinking maybe Charlie or Mary would be there. Maybe next time.

Hi, I have been drooling over a property listed for sale on line at the address 11122 North Point Road, Eagle Harbor T(ownship?) and can't locate it on any map or online. Can anyone enlighten me as to location? Pictures appear to be on one of the bays, but can't tell which one?
The description states "sheltered by North Point" but that hasn't helped me any , being 500+ miles away. Thanks for any response..love what I have seen and experienced so far in the the UP. jcmenzel

Kathie Murto: Hmmmm strange. When we were there in late June we also stopped at the "HUT" Went around back hoping to meet Charlie, Mary or who might be there. Only one there was Deb (billing) so I paid my pasty.net internet bill! Saved a stamp and envelope! Lots of pastys around then. Went into the "HUT" ordered 2 to go, walked around the place, checked everything out, got our nice & hot pastys and had them on the road (yummy!) while headed on up to Copper Harbor, Fort Wilkins etc.

Mary says: Hmmm, strange indeed! Maybe Charlie and Mary are just a figment of your imagination?!! No, both of us are real and you're more likely to find Charlie around there at Pasty Central than you will me, although he's usually out and about on other Pasty.NET business. Since I work out of my own home, on my own computer, you'd have to stop in Lake Linden to find me! Sorry to have missed both you, Russ and and you too Kathie! :->
