Hello from Mishawaka, IN. Wanted to let everyone know that tomorrow the students of my school (Mishawaka High School) will be part of making history. Hillary Clinton will be holding a town meeting tomorrow morning in our building. It was an exciting day today. Watching the secret service and other workers get everything ready. The library became part of the action as we served as the lunch headquaters for everyone involoved in getting things ready. Some of the students didn't like the idea of Hillary coming because they don't want her. We tried to tell them it really doesn't matter who is coming but that someone running for the office of President of the United States was coming. Not many high schools in America can say that. It is something they will remember all their lives. As I remember the day when I was a 5th grader and our teacher took us out to watch President Eisenhower go by and I took my son out when he was 3 1/2 to see Robert Kennedy drive by.
I have been enjoying the decades of the Pasty Cam and this day in history. Learning lots of interesting facts about the UP.

Okay I am going to try to load these chrysocolla pictures I talked about yesterday. I have several taken from a couple of angles and a close up. You can see how the band stretches out into Lake Superior.

Yeah, it worked! Just to remind everyone, these were taken by the Copper Harbor lighthouse.

Diane: Wow! It was worth the effort! I'm going to have to take
another look at that area in person.

Charlotte: You're right. It is something your students will
remember. I still remember running along Gratiot Avenue in
Detroit trying to shake hands with JFK--who, at the time, was
hoping to become president. My friend Claudia and I did catch
up with him and had the chance to shake his hand. I believe it
took me a week before my mother was able to coerce me into
washing it.

Good for those Copper Country kids and their history projects.
National Mine, a small town outside of Ishpeming, sponsored a
yearly publication when it still had an operational high school.
The publication, known as "Red Dust," was filled with articles
written about the older generation by students at the school.
The publication won awards in Washington, DC.

Yup, that's exactly how I remember it. If I recall, there was a fair amount of malachite in it as well. There is also some native copper in that area. You could post those on the geology thread Diane and we could really have some fun disecting them ;-)
