![]() ![]() By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, May 6, 2007 - 08:19 am: The construction of the Rosza Center on the Michigan Tech campus made the Pasty Cam on this day eight years ago. There were no other daily Internet photo features in the U.P. back in those days, as it would be several years before regional newspapers would seriously begin using the web. For this type of coverage Pasty Central was named the Information Technology Site of the Year back in the winter of '99-'00. By Deb S. ESBO CAR MUSEUM - Finland; By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Sunday, May 6, 2007 - 11:10 am: Good Morning, Everyone! It is a beautiful, but windy day here in mid-Michigan. We should be under a Red Flag Warning (for fire hazards) here, like Copper Country is today. There was a house fire on a lake about 10 miles from here yesterday afternoon that also took out another home & endangered at least two other homes on the lake, because of the high winds and low humidity. By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Sunday, May 6, 2007 - 01:37 pm: Thank you Mr & Mrs. Deb! 12 years! Cant believe it! By kathie Murto (Murtomania) on Sunday, May 6, 2007 - 02:20 pm: ALOHA from the beautiful island of Maui!! The expected weather report is 88 with lots of sun. another beautiful day in Hawaii. We have one more week to spend here and then back to MI. Relax and enjoy your Sunday. By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Sunday, May 6, 2007 - 05:01 pm: Hello, nice and Sunny but windy in Pinckney. Finally got my annual sticker for the state parks, we do a lot of hiking down here by us in ours. And always check out the parks up north too. By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Sunday, May 6, 2007 - 05:16 pm: What I wouldn't do for 68° and 12% humidity right now. At last check, it was 83° with 81% humidity in Houston, making for a heat index of 94...... blah!!! By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Sunday, May 6, 2007 - 05:22 pm: 12% humidity with high winds, though, makes for great fire danger! I never heard whether they ever finally managed to fully put out the "Baraga Bump" fire in Baraga county. The last I heard, they had called in fire fighter specialists from several states, to free up some of the locals, in case other fires started. They really need rain up there! By dlp (Babyseal) on Sunday, May 6, 2007 - 08:51 pm:
Marianne: Here is an update on the Baraga Bump fire from today's Marquette Mining Journal. And yes, we need rain badly! It finally stopped snowing here :) By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Sunday, May 6, 2007 - 09:31 pm: Thank you, Babyseal, for the update! I'm glad they finally have it contained. I wish it were completely out, but hopefully it will stay contained. I had been following the story in the Houghton Daily Mining Gazette & WLUCTV6, but I had not heard anything about it for a couple of days. By Danbury (Danbury) on Monday, May 7, 2007 - 02:54 am:
Starting a prescribed burn in that weather sounds somewhat goofy to me. Results may be just as were to be expected. By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Monday, May 7, 2007 - 06:49 pm: Talked to my brother a few minutes ago who lives in Baraga and he said they were getting some rain which they really needed as it was so dry there. He thinks the fire may be contained but you never know about those under ground peat bogs (I think they are called) they could burn for a long time. |
