By Danbury (Danbury) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 11:07 am: By FJL (Langoman) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 11:11 am: The word "cutesy" seems to upset you. By Danbury (Danbury) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 11:28 am: Langoman: You've got mail. Put together hastily, so it might sound somewhat stern - not intended. By Danbury (Danbury) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 11:29 am: Oops - take the next post, after the two mentioned, too. I just happen to think that's a little much. By Danbury (Danbury) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 11:38 am: David Soumis: just read your last post of that discussion that made Joanie post several times over it. By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 02:17 pm: Many thanks on your birthday, Capn Paul, for the much-needed intelligent contributions to this site. By Deb S. Danbury and all...I don't get offended easily...maybe if someone called me un-American or similar. Remember the old sticks and stones poem? By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 03:05 pm: David S.-I agree with you, good ole Vollwerths ring bologna. I like it cut up in a frying pan with green pepper and onion. Yum. But a bologna sandwich is always a favorite too. By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 03:20 pm:
David, have you ever cooked up some spaghetti, doused it with butter/margarine, salt & pepper and served it with boiled ring bologna? It is to die for! By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 03:27 pm: A nice UP sunrise for your birthday, Capt. Paul. I guess the only thing better would be to experience it in person. Hope it's been a good birthday all day. By David Soumis (Davesou) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 03:34 pm:
Hey Deb...about the only way I ever eat it is sandwich...or sometimes cooked in a pan, like spam :) with eggs or whatever. By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 03:40 pm: Oh my goodness Deb....buttered noodles (actually margarined noodles, but that doesn't sound right!) in any shape or form and Vollwerth's bologna (ring or lunch meat)...that's one of my favorites!! It must be a Lake Linden thing? :-> By Danbury (Danbury) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 03:48 pm:
Perhaps ring bologna is a german (or european) thing, since it's quite common here. Can't have any in the fridge 'cause if I do it happens that at night, after bedtime, I'll get that irresistible desire ... I could run through a 1 1/2 pound ring in three days, just snacking on it. By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 03:49 pm:
David, you live in Wisconsin! You know, home of cheese, beer & sausage! There is Abbyland ring bologna out here as well as Schweigert's. I'm spoiled by Vollwerth's, so the only kind I like out here is the beef Schweigert's. It's the closest I can find to Vollwerth's. Maple syrup? You've got to be kidding me? By JH (Thumbgardener) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 03:52 pm:
David S. Koegel's Meats has been making ring bologna for years. They have very good products. I think Koegel hot dogs are the # 1 seller in this area. I know they are sold in many areas of Michigan. Here is a link to their web site. http://www.koegelmeats.com/ By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 04:21 pm: That's what I was gonna say, too, JH! Just made my world-famous (family-famous anyway) ground bologna sandwiches for our Christmas Eve party. By timd (Timd) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 04:21 pm:
Deb, the Pat's won, Go Brady. By David Soumis (Davesou) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 04:27 pm:
my mom used to grind up the bologna and add ground up pickles and mayo for sandwiches. That was a pretty good mix :) By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 04:35 pm: By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 04:36 pm:
Funny stuff, Dave. Wish I could eat fruits and veggies, but with Crohn's disease, you're pretty limited unless they're cooked. Therefore I eat things like apple pie, blueberry pie, etc. LOL By JARMO ITÄNIEMI (Japei) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 04:38 pm:
Hi hi.. .Finn pics; By JH (Thumbgardener) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 04:39 pm: Marsha, Koegels is the only kind of hot dogs of bologna we buy. I have never tryed Vollwerths. Maybe next time we get to the UP we will. By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 04:49 pm:
Oh man, Deb, sure didn't know you had Crohn's disease, so sorry, that is no fun. Have a good friend in Coal City that has it and know what you are going through. By dlp (Babyseal) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 05:05 pm:

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 05:32 pm: What a coincidence! I am going to have Vollwerth's ring balonga tonight for supper. My sister sent us a gift pack for Christmas. Bless her!!! We used to have the ground up baloney sandwich spread also. It was so good. I have been making my own sandwich spreads lately as I have lost my taste for lunch meat. By Sandra H. (Wasayooper) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 05:53 pm: Why do I get hungry whenever I enter this site? Hmmm...sausage? spaghetti? pasties? I ran out and bought the ingredients for pasties yesterday but now I'm thinking sausage spaghetti instead. That is a tasty dish. I think I'm going to like this site. I've been on it two days and have two meals all planned already:>) By Sandra H. (Wasayooper) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 06:45 pm:

thumbgardener, By JH (Thumbgardener) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 07:13 pm: Lvcamnotes, I agree. We wouldn't think of using anything but a Koegels vienna for a chile dog. I also like the Koegels all beef hot dogs. We don't eat hot dogs and bologna very often, but when we do that's the kind we eat. By Daveofmohawk (Daveofmohawk) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 07:39 pm: Does anyone know the name of the cheese and sausage shop just north of Green Bay; it's on Hwy. 41, I believe it's in Lena. It starts with the letter "K" and is on the west side of the highway? I always stop there whenever I go to Green Bay and wanted to see if they have a website but can't remember the name. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 08:36 pm: Thank you. I got tired of thinking! I thought it was Florida but couldn't come up with it. By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 08:37 pm:
Laurie, I was going to tell him to ask you. I knew you'd know the answer. By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 08:43 pm: David H.: My lunchbox was Superman. I was so embarrassed to have a boys' lunchbox, but now it's OK since it's worth about $750! Does that make me an antique? By JH (Thumbgardener) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 08:47 pm:
Deb,that's the only one I could think of. I think David H. needs to come back on here and declare you the winner! You were the quickest and had the most answers. By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 08:48 pm:
David of Mohawk- By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 08:50 pm: Here's one for all of you. There are only 3 words in the English language that end in the letters "gry". One is hungry, another is angry. Does ANYBODY know what the 3rd is? We can not figure it out. By David Soumis (Davesou) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 08:56 pm: I know the answer, so I will not give it away...unless you want me too :) By moi (Moi) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 09:09 pm:

we've been slowly throwing or gving away all the old stuff. All we have left are the memories. Its just too hard to keep hauling it around. Our house was so full of stuff there was no room for anything. Now we live in a simple way. By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Sunday, January 7, 2007 - 09:45 pm: Yes, I still have the lunchbox. It's on a shelf in my family room. We also collect peddle cars, which I assume you meant instead of paddle cars. (Although the peddle boats are worth a lot!) 3 Fuller Brush salesmen where in Houghton and needed a room for the night. They went to a motel and the desk clerk said," it will cost $30.00."Good deal so they took the room.Afew minutes later the Bell Boy knocked on their door. One salesman awnsered and the Bell Boy said," sorry we charged you to much, here is $5.00 back." Salesman said," thanx here is a $2.00 tip."And then he put $1.00 in his pocket and gave the other 2 guy's each a $1.00 too.So it cost the 3 of them $9.00 each. By Capt. I know live in the Upper Peninsula but either myself or friends who visit downstate bring back me all of the goodies I could possibly want. They have the best liver sausage I have ever had as well as smoked sausage! By JH (Thumbgardener) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 07:58 am: Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) According to the web site, some Koegels products are sold in a few areas of the UP. I believe the farthest west is in Marquette at Walmart and GFS. By Happy to be in the U.P.
