Vollwerth...I just had a McDonald's burger, or whatever that stuff is....I'd much rather have a ring of bologna anyday. Probably not much better for you though :)

David S.-I agree with you, good ole Vollwerths ring bologna. I like it cut up in a frying pan with green pepper and onion. Yum. But a bologna sandwich is always a favorite too.

David, have you ever cooked up some spaghetti, doused it with butter/margarine, salt & pepper and served it with boiled ring bologna? It is to die for!

Hey Deb...about the only way I ever eat it is sandwich...or sometimes cooked in a pan, like spam :) with eggs or whatever.
It tastes good with maple syrup over it too.

What's interesting, I've never seen ring bolgna except from Vollwerth. I would think there are other sausage makers that do rings though.

Oh my goodness Deb....buttered noodles (actually margarined noodles, but that doesn't sound right!) in any shape or form and Vollwerth's bologna (ring or lunch meat)...that's one of my favorites!! It must be a Lake Linden thing? :->

Perhaps ring bologna is a german (or european) thing, since it's quite common here. Can't have any in the fridge 'cause if I do it happens that at night, after bedtime, I'll get that irresistible desire ... I could run through a 1 1/2 pound ring in three days, just snacking on it.

David, you live in Wisconsin! You know, home of cheese, beer & sausage! There is Abbyland ring bologna out here as well as Schweigert's. I'm spoiled by Vollwerth's, so the only kind I like out here is the beef Schweigert's. It's the closest I can find to Vollwerth's. Maple syrup? You've got to be kidding me?

Mary, been eating buttered spaghetti all my life. We loved it as kids. Didn't start adding ring bologna to it until Ron decided he liked it that way. Try it, it's delicious! Add a few green olives or dill pickles and you can't beat it. At the mention of olives and dill pickles, Ron has begun to gag. LOL He says try parmesan cheese on the spaghetti. But nope, only with sauce will I do that.

I actually quit eating sausage or any type of prepared meat like that...trying to lose weight and eat a more healthy mix...like fruits, vegetables, and natural/organic food, not all that prepared, packaged stuff....although the weight loss hasn't happened yet...its only been 5 years, what do you want? LOL ... it took 20 to get this way. :)

Funny stuff, Dave. Wish I could eat fruits and veggies, but with Crohn's disease, you're pretty limited unless they're cooked. Therefore I eat things like apple pie, blueberry pie, etc. LOL
You can still eat that stuff, just not all the time.

Marsha, Koegels is the only kind of hot dogs of bologna we buy. I have never tryed Vollwerths. Maybe next time we get to the UP we will.

Oh man, Deb, sure didn't know you had Crohn's disease, so sorry, that is no fun. Have a good friend in Coal City that has it and know what you are going through.
On another note, when I was living in Austria one of my favorite dishes was, what my mother called "Haute". It was fried bologna with scrambled eggs in the middle. I sure miss her and those good old days. Meat, back then was a real commodity, soup bones were all we ever had and it was the best. I really think we are so spoiled.

What a coincidence! I am going to have Vollwerth's ring balonga tonight for supper. My sister sent us a gift pack for Christmas. Bless her!!! We used to have the ground up baloney sandwich spread also. It was so good. I have been making my own sandwich spreads lately as I have lost my taste for lunch meat.

Why do I get hungry whenever I enter this site? Hmmm...sausage? spaghetti? pasties? I ran out and bought the ingredients for pasties yesterday but now I'm thinking sausage spaghetti instead. That is a tasty dish. I think I'm going to like this site. I've been on it two days and have two meals all planned already:>)

I am glad to hear you're thinking of retiring in Ontonagon. My parents would agree that it is a wonderful place to retire. They are older (75 and 82) so the cold air gets their lungs and airways sometimes. Other than that life has been good for them there. The cost of living there is relatively low and they both drive still. They are also able to get around by walking and riding bikes in the summer.

If you have any questions about the area, please feel free to ask me. If I do not know, I can probably get the answer for you. Besides my parents lots of my relatives and friends still live in the area.

What part of town are you considering?

koegel's viennas are the best i've ever had.

Lvcamnotes, I agree. We wouldn't think of using anything but a Koegels vienna for a chile dog. I also like the Koegels all beef hot dogs. We don't eat hot dogs and bologna very often, but when we do that's the kind we eat.

Does anyone know the name of the cheese and sausage shop just north of Green Bay; it's on Hwy. 41, I believe it's in Lena. It starts with the letter "K" and is on the west side of the highway? I always stop there whenever I go to Green Bay and wanted to see if they have a website but can't remember the name.

I went to school many a days with that in my Lassie Lunchbox David S.My Mom ground it up just like that too.

When my husband asked me the *gry riddle many years ago, I racked my brain for days trying to come up with the answer. Thank God for the internet! Now I can tell him I know the answer to his riddle.

I had a metal United Airlines lunchbox. My parents still have it along with all the other memorabilia: extra long skiis with cable bindings, an old canvas tent large enough to hold an army, our first calculator in the early 70s (it could only do basic math). Of course everything is full of mildew so I doubt if there is anything of any worth anymore but it sure is fun to look at.

we've been slowly throwing or gving away all the old stuff. All we have left are the memories. Its just too hard to keep hauling it around. Our house was so full of stuff there was no room for anything. Now we live in a simple way.

Yes, I still have the lunchbox. It's on a shelf in my family room. We also collect peddle cars, which I assume you meant instead of paddle cars. (Although the peddle boats are worth a lot!)

Actually, if you look at it another way it makes sense. 30 - 1 for each guy (3) = 27 - 2 for the bellboy = 25.

JH (Thumbgardener) I have to agree with you 100%Koegel's is the best hot dog ever. I know live in the Upper Peninsula but either myself or friends who visit downstate bring back me all of the goodies I could possibly want. They have the best liver sausage I have ever had as well as smoked sausage!

Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) According to the web site, some Koegels products are sold in a few areas of the UP. I believe the farthest west is in Marquette at Walmart and GFS.

If they do see them at Walmart and GFS I have never seen them there. TY JH very much! I am orginally from Merrill, MI last town in Western end of Saginaw County.
