Mornin everyone, By Susan Caryl (Gilbsulmum) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 06:39 am: Deb, you beat me...I was just sitting here gabbing with a co-worker and missed the early bird. Guess I'll just have to go home and sulk! :) By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 06:54 am: Mornin', not me, I never get the first post, just like trying to get on. By Joe (Jhurl) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 06:57 am: By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 07:00 am: Morning all, It was MR. DEB, not me. I'm going to have a few words to say to him. If I were to try to get on that early I would never be first. They would have put me at yesterday. Anyway, morning everybody. We got about an inch of much needed rain overnight. That's so nice after planting my flowers. Now the sun can come out and beat on them all day and beautify everything. Ain't life grand? By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 07:47 am: Mikie..our Superbird had the 440-6 pack with the 4-speed "pistal grip" shifter. Bought it in '77 and paid $3000.00 for it. Today that wouldn't even come close to a down payment on one! Sold it to buy a '70 Shelby GT 350, the first of many Shelby's, Boss 302"s, Mach 1's and many, many, many more adding up to somewhere around 163 cars over the past 31 years! Driving Sunday to Missouri to pick up a '88 Corvette, the newest member of our current fleet. We love muscle cars I guess. By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 07:59 am:
I'll drive to wherever you're at JanieT, with double the amount of cash in hand, for that superbird, lol!!! I just saw one here for $125,000. That is the reason why my bird isn't for sale, at any price. By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 08:06 am: Eclogite, Sure glad I'm not blonde. I'd have to take offense. Hey, maybe that's who we could pick on next. By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 08:12 am: Cap't Paul...a guy from Wisconsin bought it from us, went through it with a total restoration, the car was all original when we owned it, but it was a solid car. He was showing it in National and in concouqer(sp?) shows and whooping hind end with it, throughout the U.S.A. I'm not sure where it is at present day. Our 69 RoadRunners were both 383's with the Coyote Duster ram air engine. One was blue with white bucket interior, AM-8 track radio, we bought it from the original owner and the other was green with green interior, both auto's. Iowa rust did them both in sad to say. By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 08:14 am: Hey now, I'm a blonde, and a natural one, no dye job here. I can take it! By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 08:29 am:
Lol ok, you found my other weakness/hobby besides geology and mining history, it's muscle mopars!! Unfortunitely, if you live UP north, one always has to be wary of the dreaded "iron moth". When I get a photo gallery, which should be shortly, I'll post a pic or two of Zorro. Mine is a 68 Roadrunner 440 auto. By Danbury (Danbury) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 09:15 am:
Good afternoon everybody. By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:00 am: Good morning everyone :) Need coffee...or to go back to bed. By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:26 am: Capt. Paul, A heat strike is when the temp in the building reaches a level that the production workers decide it is too hot to work. We had an unusually warm spring and early summer in 1967 and 1968 so the production workers went on strike during the critical buildout period. The next year parts are on hand as we were trying to run back to back changeovers, That means the next year car was going down the line with a skip in between the different car years. The assembly plant kept working since we had invested in enough fans to lift the roof off according to the plant manager. The launch of the 1980 was marred with several strikes some about too much heat, and several in the winter about not enough heat. Very seldom do you see any 1980 Chrysler 5th ave, or Dodge Monacos since it was a very limited run. Janie, I think that the Super Bird and the Dodge Superbee were similar, are they the ones with the large spoiler on the back? Senior moment, I have to call my buddy if I want to remember things. Didn't call him about the Supers. By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:40 am: Mikie, the Plymouth Superbirds (Richard Petty) and the Dodge Daytona were the "winged" NASCAR cars. Made for the public to purchase for street use in 1970 only. By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:46 am: I'm typing this for the third time! Internet went down here. Last day of school! Wed.& Thurs. have professional developments--training me in things I've already been doing for years. Then, if all goes well, I'll be UP bound Friday. Gas is $2.99! We'll have to try to conserve while up there. Nah, maybe not. We'll drive 9-1/2 hours to Aura, then the next day make the long trip to the Harbor Haus for lunch. No better view! Sunday we'll order a tostada pizza at Ambassador. https://pasty.com/pcam/marsha/100_0838 By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:48 am: 1969 for the Daytonas of which they built 503. 1970 for the Superbirds and 1923 built. They were supposed to be the same, but if you know what your looking for, they are quite different in appearence. By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:50 am: You boys fasinate me with all this car talk. My 4 guys lose me when they start with cars, dirt bikes (1 g'son races the bikes)etc. I love my '91 LaBaron mostly cause it's been paid for, for years and mostly cause I know it's little quirks. Cars are like shoes and purses...as long as they work and aren't falling apart, I don't need a new one. Now books...I'm nuts about them. Just ordered 5 new ones and am happy as a clam reading them. Especially art books and "olden days". Good theng we're all different. huh? By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:51 am:
Marsha, By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:55 am: Janie, Thanks couldn't remember for sure. I know that Petty had a special car built for him and took delivery right at the plant. Does anyone remember the Super Bee it was a Dodge? Didn't have the wings but had a spoiler like the Roadrunner. When you are around cars all day long you don't always pay attention to what is going on. I was in Labor Relations in those days and not on the floor to see the cars. On certain days I would get an overnighter that was hot, but usually got the four door sedans since the production worker who set the cars up for us to drive, had many problems with Labor Relations. One of my friends at that time bought his wife a Dodge station wagon and had a hemi installed in it. In those days you could do things like that with the blessings of the plant manager. The first day she had it she racked up three speeding tickets. By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:57 am: There was also the 1969 Dodge Charger 500, very rare car to be found today, basicly the Daytona minus the wing, made for NASCAR racing. Dodge's answer for the Ford Talladega. By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:59 am: MsKatie,I'm a gal, but I enjoy the boys with their passion for muscle cars! By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 11:04 am: I went on vacation to the CC in the late sixties and had a State Police car that didn't have the light, or the emblem on it. You should have seen how people would slow down when that car was around. The car had so many problems that the police refused it. What I did not realize is the color that their cars are, is pattened by Michigan and can't be used unless they give permission. Got into a little trouble when I got home, and the production worker who assigned cars just stood in the background laughing at me. By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 11:20 am: The SuperBee was Dodge's answer to the Plymouth RoadRunner. The SuperBee is really a stripped down Coronet, the RoadRunner a stripped down Satellite. They both shared the same 383/335hp engine (which was only available in those 2 cars) and were marketed to appeal to the hotrodder kids of the day with their low sticker prices. By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 11:40 am:
MsKatie, I'm with you on the car thing. I told hubby that I plan to keep my truck, "until I drive the tires off of it" :) By Mike R New Berlin WI (Miker) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 11:46 am: I remember the Road Runner when it came out. Couldn't roll down the back windows. Talk about el-strippo. You could only get it in a 2 door sedan. I bought the 68 Satellite with 5 less horse power. I didn't know the 68 RRs came with a 440. I know the GTXs did. By paul (Pungvait) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 11:51 am: Michigan State Police blue is just Mack truck blue from 1952 - anybody can use it - but, you might be under closer scrutiny than usual By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 12:15 pm: By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 12:17 pm:
The first Roadrunners were of the coupe variety with the pop-out rear windows. Later in the year, they added the hardtop "pillarless" models with rolldown windows. I had always heard rumors that late in 68 Plymouth slipped a few 440's into Roadrunners, now with what Mikie has said it makes sense and sounds plausable. By Randall Ollila (Rwolli) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 12:44 pm:
Afternoon All. By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 01:03 pm:
Big Mac Commuter card: $1.50 per crossing ;) By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 01:09 pm: Does that card include a "Big Mac" while you cross the Big Mac?? lol, ya want fries with that?? By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 01:22 pm:
How bad are the bugs in Da UP? By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 01:23 pm: Capt. Paul, Heck, for that price, they should supersize those fries ;) By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 02:03 pm: I was hoping there was a senior discount going on there. Paul, didn't know you were an English Major. Sur5er, Six books, after two weeks what are you going to do the rest of the summer? I should have kept better notes on the plants when I worked in them. Never have been into hot cars, having always had leases. I did have several 300's with the 440 in them, always wanted to have nice riding cars rather then hot ones. Would love to have a big car now but retirement doesn't allow it. By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 02:13 pm: pungvait, It may have just been Chryslers rule, but the police cars had what the company called an intereceptor engine, don't know what that meant as I wasn't that interested. I know that I spent some time with the Plant manager listening to all of my faults. I had gone to Indiana to a plant and asked for a van to drive and my favorite production worked set me up with one. Unfortunatly for me it was the plant managers private van and he was going on vacation as soon as the day was over. No matter what I said I was wrong. Was glad when he left for another plant. Ms Katie, By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 03:11 pm: hmm. gnats getting PHD's what next? Or are they medical degrees? Some of them do draw blood. By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 03:54 pm: Not a medical degree, a science degree; geology to be exact. Although I could believe some gnats have Ph.D's as they do tend to strike with "surgical" precision....... By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 05:33 pm:
Marsha-- By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 06:52 pm:
Oh my gosh, you guys and your cars. I do NOT care one iota about cars, trucks, motorized bikes, etc. (However, with the price of gas I'm tempted to get a motorcycle to ride to work on nice days.) Like Ms. Katie and Sur5er I prefer to read. I have so many books that I don't know where to start and I just received a box with 6 or 7 books in it. I can't wait to get started. Lounging in the pool with a good book or 3 is a great way to spend a day. And that's never enough. If I see a paperback at Wallyworld that I don't happen to have, I have to buy that too. I'm at least 50 books behind, but I keep on buying them. It's an addiction like you guys (& Janie) with the cars. I'm more into romantic suspense than art though. Never was much into art but give me something where I can try to figure out whodunit and I'm in heaven. By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 08:32 pm:
Nate, saw your question on yesterday's What'sUP. Actually, I'm not a teacher. My official title is Media Clerk. I work in the library. I do everything the libaraian does except collect her pay. I'm in charge of everything that goes in the computer and comes out of it, getting books and magazines ready to go out. I'm finishing my 19th year tomorrow. So I was there when you were there. I really do like the job and it is only two blocks from home. So I never have to drive to work. When you are here if you'd like to tour MHS let me know. You won't know the inside of the building. The outside is the same but what changes they have made with this last renovation. By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 09:08 pm: Oh my goodness, I can't believe I'm joining you Flamingo nuts (I mean that in a nice way, no bashing intended!), but I thought of you all today in the local hardware store. They had a pair of Flamingos all stuffed in a pink box (poor things), on clearance for $6.50! No, my hubby wouldn't let me bring them home with me either! :-( By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 09:17 pm:
Charlotte, Thanks for asking about our babies. They're doing quite nicely actually. I just came in from checking out my gardens and yes, the flamingos as well. Furthermore, I used to be a media clerk also. I didn't get the pay that the librarian did, but she was never there and I had to do nearly everything myself. Put everything in the computer, order what I thought would go over big with the kids, help the kids with finding the books they needed, etc., etc. It was a great job and I loved both working with the kids (elementary school age), and being around the books helped me know which books I'd like to see my own kids reading. And I lived about 5 minutes from work. What could be better? Then we moved, and now I work at the bank which I also love. By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 09:25 pm:
Marsha, Have fun in the UP and while you're at the Ambassador, have some ravioli for me. MMMM MMMM Good!!!!! I'll take a strawberry daiquiri with that please. Drive carefully and have fun!!! By Randall Ollila (Rwolli) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 09:29 pm:
Evening All. By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 09:29 pm: Kosk did you mean you'll be at the Pasty Fest? Maybe we'll meet then huh? I expect to arrive on that Friday too. Hey we may need to wear name tags to find everyone we "know". I may have to stay for a couple weeks to see and do all I want. Still waiting to hear if Mr. Bill has a doghouse or old chicken coop I could crash in :) Deb you'll never guess what I found in my rhubarb patch this afternoon, rather at the edge! An elderly flamingo grandmother was guarding a little miniture rose I planted several years ago. Found it when I pulled all the violet plants and huge leaves of rhubarb that was shading it. It is a sweet little red rose. She was doing a good job of guarding it too. Both her wings are broken so she doesn't spin them any more. I must be my very first flamingo I collected. Also I've told my kids that when I'm gone it's up to them what to do with all the "stuff" I've pack-ratted thru the years. But with my hundreds of books maybe they can start a Memorial Library like Lincoln or Eisenhauer. :> By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 09:32 pm: Oh yes Miss Mary. I received your helpful email this afternoon. And I sent you a thank should receive it soon. You're a peach for helping me. Can't wait to meet you too. And Charlie. By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 09:38 pm: Okay, since we're talking bugs today I have a question. Did the Brits model the Harrier jump jet after Da UP horseflies? By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 09:39 pm: Only the aircraft are a little smaller. By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:37 pm: Ms. Katie, Maybe we could add mine and Sur5er's books to your collection when we're all gone and then we can call it the pastycammers library or something like that. They can do what they want with my porcelain dolls, lighthouses, etc., etc. Talk about being a pack-rat. I'm awful. And I collect everything. Oh well, that'll be their problem. Lucky guys. By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10:40 pm:
Randall, Too true! I could always fly there but some guy would probably have to pick me up at the airport with a car. I don't mean I don't like cars. I just don't know the difference between any of them. Some are red, some are blue, some are white, you know, like that. By Erica - Florida Keys (Erica) on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 11:53 pm: Good night for now. I look forward to the postings tomorrow. By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 - 12:31 am: OK what are we going to talk about tomorrow? Or today I mean.I can add about a ton of Agatha Christie books. Spending the kids inheiratance on the roof. every once in a while I heard them say ohoh have to replace that also. I never saw anything like that. That means another thousand. well good night to all. |
