Yesterday Edie and I drove to Baraga, along Keweenaw Bay, where it is normally dotted with fishing shanties this time of year. Unusually warm conditions this winter have left the Bay iceless... It looked like you could surf on the waves this Super-Bowl weekend. ![]() By Margo (Margo) on Sunday, February 5, 2006 - 08:44 am: Where is all the snow? Here in SE lower Michigan, we had a mere dusting? By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, February 5, 2006 - 10:35 am: Not been a lot of ice fishing around here because of the warm weather. My son and his wife were supposed to have a bocce ball tournament next weekend on a nearby lake but it was cancelled because the owners of the spot were afraid the ice would give out. I don't like ice fishing anyway. I'm afraid of the lake in the winter. I love it in the summer though. Have a nice day and it sure is hard to pick a team for the Super Bowl. I like them both but I think I'll be rooting for Seattle. I'm happy for Bettis though since he's from Detroit. I think he still has that white fishing tent somewhere. Thanks to his cousin Patty for the picture I hadn't seen. It makes me miss home. Minnesota is nice, but just not the same. By elm (Grampy) on Sunday, February 5, 2006 - 02:41 pm: Mellisa, thats your Grandpa and Great Grandpa in the background. The little boy is Pattis' younger brother. By Inwis (Inwis) on Sunday, February 5, 2006 - 02:54 pm: The machine looks like a Canadian, Bolens Hus-Ski? By Douginwi (Douginwi) on Sunday, February 5, 2006 - 03:52 pm: I never understood ice fishing. If I wanted ice that bad I would just go to my freezer. By Gus LL (Gusll) on Sunday, February 5, 2006 - 04:18 pm:
The snowmobile in the photo is a late model Hus Ski, about a mid 60's model. The HusSki was made in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Started in the early 60's until the late 60's when they were were manufactured by Bolens in Wisconsin. Thanks Gus, By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Sunday, February 5, 2006 - 11:41 pm: Margo: where in SE MI? Over here in St.Clair county, north of Anchor Bay we had 6" of it, cold, blowing, drifting just as Chuck Gaidaca and "Weatherbug" said it would be! Just want to share with all of you that this month PBS is airing a film about the Winter War between Finland and Russia in the 1940's, called "Fire and Ice." There is a wealth of very fascinating information at both the PBS website and the website of the film itself. I remember hearing stories about it when I was growing up-- how courageous the Finns were in fighting for their democracy. By Jon Cadwell (Jonc) on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 - 08:31 am:
Hey! You can't fool me... That "inland lake" is really the great little pond behind the barn on the "in-law's" farm. 8^) |
